National LAP lethality assessment
The Lethality Assessment Program (LAP) is a national initiative aimed at preventing domestic violence homicides and serious injuries. It provides a standardized, evidence-based lethality assessment instrument and accompanying referral protocol that helps first responders identify victims of domestic violence who are at the highest risk of being seriously injured or killed by their intimate partners. The LAP connects these victims with critical safety tools and services, ensuring they receive immediate support and safety planning. The program has been validated as a "supported intervention" by the Centers for Disease Control’s Continuum of Evidence Effectiveness and is recognized as a "promising practice" by the U.S. Department of Justice.
